UNICEF announced emergency water support for northern Vietnam on 12 September 2024, five days after Typhoon Yagi made landfall. The agency was working through government partners to restore essential services after flooding, landslides and storm damage.

Its initial deliveries included 80,000 water-purification tablets for Thai Nguyen’s disease-control centre. Another 4,000 litres of water went to Lao Cai Provincial Hospital to help provide drinking water for 800 people. Further planned supplies included water tanks, ceramic filters, soap and hand sanitiser.

UNICEF’s response priorities extended beyond water. They included emergency medical supplies, nutrition support, temporary learning spaces and psychosocial help. The agency also identified humanitarian cash assistance for vulnerable households with children and pregnant women as a priority.

The announcement illustrates the range of services involved in disaster recovery: repairing access to water is closely connected to health and the reopening of schools. This briefing records the agency’s September 2024 response and plans, rather than providing a current assessment of recovery needs.
